Timeless Treasures of the Algarve: From Moorish Castles to the “End of the World”
Step back in time and uncover the Algarve’s rich and layered history on this full-day journey through its most emblematic towns, dramatic landscapes and iconic coastal landmarks.
Our day begins in Silves, the former Moorish capital of the Algarve. Explore the city’s historic heart, dominated by the impressive red sandstone castle - the largest in the region - and its adjoining Gothic cathedral, built on the site of an ancient mosque.
We then continue to Lagos, a coastal town steeped in maritime heritage and closely tied to Portugal’s Age of Discovery. Here you’ll have free time for lunch (not included) and will be visiting the town’s key sites: the 15th-century slave market, the ornate Church of Santo António, the seaside fortress and the charming cobbled streets of the old town.
Our journey ends at the dramatic Cape St. Vicente, Europe’s southwesternmost point - once believed to be the very edge of the known world. Take in the sweeping ocean views, the striking lighthouse and the nearby Sagres Fortress, forever linked to Prince Henry the Navigator and the spirit of discovery.
