Timeless Treasures of the Algarve: From Moorish Castles to the “End of the World”
Step back in time and uncover the Algarve’s layered past on this full-day journey through its most historic towns, dramatic landscapes and iconic coastal landmarks.
Our day begins in Silves, the former Moorish capital of the Algarve. Here, you’ll explore the oldest part of the city, home to the region’s largest castle and its oldest cathedral, both built from striking red sandstone. Then, we ascend the Serra de Monchique to reach Fóia, the highest point in the Algarve, where breathtaking panoramic views offer perfect photo opportunities.
After a lunch stop (not included), the afternoon takes us to the coastal town of Lagos. Rich in maritime history, Lagos was once a hub of the Portuguese Discoveries. Highlights include the haunting 15th-century slave market, the opulent golden Church of Santo António, the seaside fortress and a stroll through the charming old town.
Our final stop is the dramatic Cape St. Vicente, Europe's southwesternmost point—once considered the very edge of the known world. You’ll see the iconic lighthouse, the rugged cliffs, and nearby the Sagres Fortress, linked to Prince Henry the Navigator and the Age of Discovery.
